A New Era in Pain Medicine Certification: ABPM Replaces its MOC Exam with Continuing Certification in Pain Medicine
The American Board of Pain Medicine (ABPM) is ushering in a transformative change to its Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process. Effective in 2026, the 200-question MOC examination for time-limited Diplomates will be replaced with a more flexible, educationally supportive model renamed “Continuing Certification in Pain Medicine” which consists of un-proctored quarterly learning modules taken at our Diplomates leisure throughout the year. This forward-thinking shift reflects ABPM’s commitment to continuous learning, professional development and physician wellness – all which are increasingly embraced across the specialty.
